VOCIC and Birdability Partner to Support Inclusive Outdoor Exploration

There’s something profoundly healing about being in nature—the sound of birdsong, the brush of wind against your skin, the quiet thrill of witnessing life unfold in the trees above. But for many people with disabilities or mobility challenges, connecting with the natural world often comes with barriers that can feel impossible to overcome.

This Disability Pride Month, VOCIC and Birdability joined forces to break down those barriers. Together, we launched a powerful giveaway campaign aimed at expanding access to nature by providing mobility aids that empower more people to experience the joy of birding, without limitations.

Accessibility in Action: Bringing Nature Within Reach

While trails and parks are often assumed to be open to all, the reality is far more complicated. Many birding spots remain inaccessible for individuals with disabilities. That’s why this initiative carried a clear message: the beauty of nature should not be limited by a person’s physical ability.

Take Toni Prynn, for example—a participant whose story moved our entire team. Currently undergoing a long and uncertain diagnostic process, Toni frequently experiences numbness in her arms and legs, making it painful and dangerous to stand for more than five minutes. “An electric mobility scooter would allow me to stay outdoors longer without the fear of my legs giving out," she wrote. "I could finally go to the places I’ve avoided because of pain and feel the peace of nature again.”

Toni’s story is far from unique. We heard from birders who dream of rolling steadily through wooded paths with the help of a rollator, and others who long to reach distant birding areas on a scooter without fear of exhaustion. Every comment reflected a deep yearning for nature—and reinforced one core belief: the right tools can be a bridge to freedom.

From Stories to Solutions

The giveaway ran from July 16 to July 30, inviting birders with disabilities to share their needs and dreams. Winners received a VOCIC Z21 Rollator or D50 Mobility Scooter—equipment designed to make outdoor exploration smoother, safer, and more enjoyable.

And this is just the beginning. Each winner will be invited to share their experiences and photos from their time in nature—helping show others that accessibility is not just possible, but beautiful.

The campaign also helped promote Birdability’s Adaptive Equipment for Birding Loaner Closets, a new initiative encouraging parks, birding clubs, and outdoor organizations to make mobility aids available onsite—creating truly inclusive spaces where everyone can bird their way.

VOCIC’s Ongoing Mission: Freedom Through Function

At VOCIC, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to live fully and move freely—regardless of age, ability, or diagnosis. Whether it’s our D50 Mobility Scooter or our lightweight, stable Z21 Rollator, each product is created to support independence, connection, and quality of life.

As Toni beautifully said, “With the right equipment, I’m no longer a bystander. I’m part of nature again.”

We believe true inclusion starts with action. That’s why we’ll continue working hand-in-hand with partners like Birdability to help make the outdoors accessible to all.
