Wayne's Mini-Tesla: An 81-Year-Old's Adventures with the VOCIC V53 Wheelchair

My name is Wayne Shook. I am an 81-year-old amputee having my right leg amputated on Dec 4, 2019. I had both a manual wheelchair and a friend's neighbor, who gave me an older-style electric wheelchair. I was never able to get any means to transport the chair, so I only used it to ride around my neighborhood.

About a year ago, we moved in with our daughter and her husband. In trying to get to know the new area, we got a set of ramps to be able to put my old chair into our van. The old chair would not go into our van due to having 6 wheels. By trying to go up the ramps, the drive wheels would be lifted off the floor.

So we decided to get a new, lightweight folding electric wheelchair. Living on SS, the cost was a primary concern. Due to both my size and weight and my 76-year-old wife, who is over 57 years old, being able to get my chair into our van, the chair had to be light enough for her to handle and sturdy enough to handle my size and weight.

We ordered one from one of the many listed online and on eBay. That supplier had a chair that fit our criteria, but they shipped the wrong chair. After doing a lot of looking, we decided that we would need a more sturdy belt chair from a more reputable dealer.

So after going through countless online ads, we decided on the VOCIC company and the V53 because its specs fit and your cost fit just within our ability to pay for a new chair.

The V53 style chair is the type and style we wanted, and most of the styles available cost way too much more than what we could afford. Its weight is just at the limit of what my wife can use, plus its construction is sturdy enough for me.

Why did we choose the V53 wheelchair over the others? VOCIC support staff readily answered our questions about the weight and other questions we had about the chair. That plus your price were the deciding factors.

Now that we have already donated our old 180 lbs chair to our local DSS, I have no means to get around other than a manual wheelchair until my new one arrives. We are very anxious to get our new chair so we can get out and about and not be stuck at home.

Later on, I received my V53 in just 5 days. I couldn't wait to start trying it out. The assembly process was straightforward, and we got it set up quickly.

I began using it at home, in the yard, and at the mall. It’s easy to operate, smart, and agile. The seat cushion is comfortable, and the width of the footrest is just right. Recently, I took it to the mall and went out with family and friends for dinner, and I’m planning to take it on a trip soon.

Now, I almost use it every day. I have to say, the V53 meets almost all of my needs for an electric wheelchair—it's lightweight, stylish, smart, and safe. I'm really glad we ended up buying this VOCIC V53; it's definitely worth it.
