Alvin McFarland: Embracing Mobility and Advocacy with the Pink D41

"I won the D41, a beautiful scooter, in one of VOCIC's Facebook contests." Alvin McFarland was one of the lucky winners of a VOCIC giveaway, receiving a pink VOCIC D41 mobility scooter. He never imagined he would win a scooter for free, and now uses it daily, always by his side.

Alvin McFarland has been following VOCIC's social media accounts. "I knew VOCIC held giveaways from time to time, but when their service team told me I was the lucky winner, I could hardly believe it," said Alvin McFarland. "VOCIC is doing something meaningful by allowing those of us with mobility challenges to experience their new products for free. It really helps ease our financial burden," he added.

Alvin McFarland, a dedicated women’s basketball coach for 39 years, has made Pink more than just a color—it’s a symbol of hope and resilience. Each season, he leads his teams in a special game where everyone wears pink, raising funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. This initiative has become a humbling tradition for Alvin and his fellow male coaches, as they support the many women they've coached, some of whom have faced the devastating reality of breast cancer.

Beyond the court, Alvin has faced his own challenges, including two back surgeries and one neck surgery, which have impacted his mobility. The specialized equipment provided to him has become crucial in helping him navigate daily tasks, particularly maintaining his personal hygiene.

“Pink plays a meaningful role in our brand image, symbolizing both innovation and breakthrough. It also reflects our support for U.S. National Pink Day, which promotes positivity by using pink to spread joy, inclusiveness, and compassion. The pink mobility scooter embodies VOCIC’s commitment to fostering greater understanding and inclusivity toward seniors and individuals with mobility challenges. Additionally, pink serves as a symbol of support and care for breast cancer patients.’’ When asked why they chose pink, VOCIC's Head of R&D, Jenny, said

As Jenny predicted, VOCIC's sales soared. The pink D41 mobility scooter attracted significant attention even before its launch, and shortly after hitting the market, it became VOCIC's best-selling mobility scooter, even selling out at one point.

"It provides me with the ability to be mobile again," Alvin McFarland said when asked how the D41 has changed his life. "I can now attend events that were previously out of reach, like sports events, especially women's basketball games, which is my passion as a 39-year WBC coach," he added.

Alvin McFarland appreciates the D41's sturdy frame, which ensures his travel safety. He also values the front basket for storing essentials and finds the speed and flip-back armrests make mobility even easier. Now, Alvin's daily life revolves around the D41, which he uses for various tasks such as getting his mail, grocery shopping, coaching WBC, attending meetings, and handling other errands as they come up.

“I was amazed at how fast it was delivered; it was very easy to break down the packaging, and assembly was simple. All contact of the customer service team has been professional with a quick response.” Alvin McFarland similarly expressed his satisfaction with the logistics and customer service team.

As Alvin McFarland mentioned, during the next season, he plans to bring his pink D41 to basketball events to showcase inclusivity and the power of pink. He has added it to his calendar and will capture these moments during their Pink Breast Cancer Awareness game, where both teams will be wearing pink.
